What exactly makes a home green?

A house is more than just walls and a roof, it is a system of components that is linked together to control the outside from getting in and providing a stable indoor environment. Our methods of building provide a home that more effectively controls the flow of heat, pressure, and moisture throughout the home. This brings lower energy costs and a better in home quality of life to the homeowner.

All homes built by Ricci Builders are built to exceed traditional building code and achieve both Energy Star and NAHB Green certification. All certifications are independently verified by a third party auditor. This process involves the review of the building plans as well as testing and various job site visits to ensure quality and certification standards are met. We are recognized as an “Energy Star” builder by the EPA and are 100% committed to this program. We also have achieved various NAHB green certifications including the first Emerald rated home in North Carolina. All our homes are certified by the Home Innovation Research Lab after completion of construction.

Beyond Energy Star

Energy Star rated homes are a great step towards a better built home, but more can be done besides just increasing energy efficiency. Green building means improving the way that homes and homebuilding sites use energy, water, and materials to reduce impacts on human health and the environment. Building a green home means making environmentally preferable and sustainable decisions throughout the building process – decisions that will minimize the environmental impact of the home while it is being built and over the many years it will be lived in. We closely follow the guideline principles of the NAHB standard to design and build our home.
